Mintimer Shaimiev: this year Russia will get Land Code

On February 20, the sixth session of Presidium of State Council was held in the Kremlin under the presidency of Vladimir Putin. The participants of the session discussed problems and prospects for reforming local self-government.


The Presidium listened to the report by RT President M.Shaimiev concerning the development of the Concept of state policy on delimitation of jurisdiction subjects and authorities between federal, regional and municipal levels of government.

At a press conference on February 20, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev said that on February 21 the State Council will consider the land issue, because it is necessary to complete a new edition of the Land Code by the end of the year. He expressed a hope that during the process of public discussion of the land reform "there will be more understanding as to the necessity of land sale and purchase".

At the same time, Shaimiev thinks that agricultural lands should be used accordingly in future "that is to say, they should produce foodstuff".
