13 February 2001, Tuesday
The Chistopol district has great prospects for development, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev said during his visit to the district on February 10. With the commissioning of a new bridge in 2002 and construction of a modern highway to Almetyevsk, it will develop rapidly.

A new electric substation will shortly be put in operation to improve power supply of nine districts of the republic. The construction is conducted on shares by "Tatenergo" and "Tatneft" - the substation is to supply power to new oilfields and 11 small oil companies, with a certain share of foreign investments.

Mintimer Shaimiev took part in presenting new Oka automobiles to invalids and WWII veterans.

The President also visited the Chistopol Watch Factory "Vostok", where he examined the assembly shops, OOO PKF "Betar" and joint Tatar-German enterprise VDO "Automobile components". Mintimer Shaimiev noted that the factory could adapt for new conditions and supplies the Russian market with competitive production.
