Tatarstan ready to perform defense orders

8 February 2001, Thursday
On February 7 in the Kazan Kremlin, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev received the delegation of the Russian Navy led by the Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet, Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov.

The purpose of the visit is to develop cooperation with the largest defense enterprises of Tatarstan. The Admiral noted that they knew Tatarstan well - the republic had built 592 ships and became one of the chief fleet and aviation contractors. Tatarstan is also a well-known sponsor - only the Northern Fleet has six divisions named after its cities.

The seamen decided to begin building the Caspian Fleet. And Tatarstan, in their opinion, is the most suitable region for it. Besides, in connection with the creation of a 10-year program for shipbuilding development, Tatarstan's potential, industrial and technological base are of great interest.

All defense enterprises of the republic, Mintimer Shaimiev said, are ready for any orders. Tatarstan unlike other regions has kept its fundamental and applied science.
