Reception at Journalists House

A reception for Tatarstan and Russian journalists was held in the Tatarstan House of Journalists on January 13 to celebrate the Day of Russian Press.
Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev thanked journalists for variety of opinions, which contributes to political stability in society. When mass media is called an authority, it is not an exaggeration, the President said and drew a parallel between executive authority and press - the fourth authority. They both effectively react to current events, their activities are closely watched by people. But journalists have the greatest degree of freedom among all authorities. Mintimer Shaimiev proposed a toast for man's keeping his reputation in any circumstances.

On 6 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the monument of the Great Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin by the Jalil State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan.
