Many wish to join Tatarstan

President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev commented upon Governor of Vologda oblast V.Pozgalev's statement that President Vladimir Putin prepares the enlargement of the Federation subjects and consequently there will remain no more than 50 of them.
It is not an urgent objective to change the Constitution of the Russian Federation, said the President. It is necessary to prepare for it thoroughly, to prepare the society, the public opinion.
As regards the enlargement of the Federation subjects, in M.Shaimiev's opinion, "everything should depend on regions' desire to be united. If some territories consider it advisable, they should be supported. Tatarstan will not object if someone wishes to join it, and many will do so".

On 6 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the monument of the Great Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin by the Jalil State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan.
