Federation Council session

The Federation Council of RF Federal Assembly met December 20 in Moscow, with the participation of Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev and Parliament Speaker Farid Mukhametshin.
The Council adopted the 2001 budget by a majority and approved the presidential bill on the state symbols of the Russian Federation.
Later in the day Mintimer Shaimiev met the leaders of the Japanese Kanematsu Corporation and Mitsubisi Heavy Industries Ltd.
The meeting touched upon a wide range of issues of Tatarstan-Japanese cooperation. In particular the parties came to an agreement on the deadline for renewal of the EURO-2 engines production credit.
The same day Mintimer Shaimiev held the meeting of a working group, developing the Concept of delimitation of authorities and jurisdiction subjects between the federal centre and federation subjects. He will present the Concept at the session of the RF State Council Presidium on December 26, 2000.

On 6 June the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev laid flowers to the monument of the Great Russian poet Aleksandr Pushkin by the Jalil State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Kazan.
