A unique 332-hectares leisure centre is to open by the 1000th anniversary of Kazan in the place of the old airport. It will boast a hippodrome, teem park, sports park, hotel complex and various leisure services. On December 6, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev examined the project and supported the idea of its creation: if Tatarstan will enjoy such a center, the people of the Volga region will spend their vacations in Kazan instead of going abroad.

The same day Mintimer Shaimiev visited both the Kazan Hippodrome and Stud-farm Kazan in Pestrechinsky district. The farm breeds Russian and American trotters from best USA, Denmark and Finland stud-horses and produces kumiss.
