President meets future scientists

On the International Students Day in the Kazan Kremlin, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev met the students, post-graduates and technical schools students awarded in 2000 with the state grants.

The President congratulated state grant winners and said that the meeting was a good opportunity to talk about youth problems and educational institutions.

Mintimer Shaimiev said that the republic and its capital "set the fashion" to all Russia in fundamental and applied science. It is the young scientists who are capable of discoveries in different fields of knowledge, and the aim of the Government, President, State Council is to support them to let Tatarstan retain its worthy place in scientific world.

Mintimer Shaimiev supported the student's initiative to announce 2001 a "Youth Year".
