The RT State Council is considering the issue of conferring authority of the RT President on Mintimer Shaimiev.

RT President Mintimer Shaimiev, RF Plenipotentiary Representative in the Volga Federal District Sergei Kirienko, RT Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov, members of the Council of the Federation and deputies of the RF State Duma take part in the session. Beginning the session, Chairman of the RT State Council Farid Mukhametshin reminded the deputies that on March 16 the RT State Council had received the letter of Russian President Vladimir Putin about submission of the candidature of Mintimer Shaimiev for conferring on him authority of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF President in the Volga Federal District Sergei Kirienko was the first to take a floor. He said: “Mintimer Shaimiev does not need to be introduced in the Republic of Tatarstan. All his life is passing before your eyes, and the results of the republic today in social development and in economic development are the results of work of a big and well-coordinated team of all branches of power of the Republic of Tatarstan. For Russia, it is evident today that Tatarstan is one of the leaders in economic development, and in social development, in the rates of growth and in investment attractiveness, and in many other aspects. The only thing needed for preserving these rates of development and for further successful development of the republic is preserving stability and predictability. Esteemed deputies of the State Council, I am convinced that electing Mintimer Shaimiev as the President of the Republic of Tatarstan is of great need for Tatarstan and Russia today”
