Mintimer Shaimiev: "Friendly relations between Tatarstan and India oblige us to cooperate"

On November 4, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to the Russian Federation Mr. Kanwal Sibal.

"It is of big importance for us that your are visiting Tatarstan right after you started your work in Russia, - Mintimer Shaimiev said welcoming Mr. Kanwal Sibal, who was appointed ambassador in Russia only two months ago. - More than once I said that friendly relations between our country oblige us to cooperate. We just have to do it and there is a good basis for this work".

The head of the republic noted that in conditions of transition of Russia to market economy, industrial and trade relations between the two countries were not in their their best form because they were based on barter. "By now, the situation has considerably improved, and it shoud become an impetus in the development of Russian-Indian relations", - Mintimer Shaimiev said.
