Tatarstan: in the light of elections

4 March 2004, Thursday
RT President Mintimer Shaimiev described the situation in the republic on the eve of the election of the RF President and deputies to the RT State Council on March 3. The President had an interview with Sinsuke Ishikava, the chief journalist of the broadcasting company NHK (Japan).

The interview will be included into the series of special reports “Russia through the prism of elections”. The program will be broadcasted in Japan and English. The Japan journalist also prepares analytic programs showing what has happened in Russia within the last four years, and what is to be expected in the nearest future. In his estimation, Tatarstan plays an important role in the political life of the Russian Federation. That is why Sinsuke Ishikava was interested not only in the preparation for the elections, and the celebration of the anniversary of Kazan, but also in the Kazan–Moscow relationship.

The broadcasting company NHK, founded in 1925, has five television channels, and engages eighteen thousand employees. By the way, the company does not broadcast commercials.
