
On 20 June, President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Russia Miroslav Kostelka.
It was the third day of ambassador's stay in Kazan. The day before, the 12-member Czech delegation led by the ambassador had visited the special economic zone "Alabuga", Kama industrial park "Master" and met with the management of the car maker KamAZ.
Welcoming the Czech delegation in his residence, President of Tatarstan noted, that Czechia and Tatarstan built very good relations and had full understanding on all issues. There are no obstacles for cooperation between Czechia and Tatarstan to successfully develop in the future as the relations between the republics are quite constructive, he enhanced.
However, Mintimer Shaimiev holds, the local companies should display more initiative in promoting economic cooperation with Czechia. "Tatarstan may somewhat lack positive aggression, we should be more active integrating into the global economy," he noted.
The efficiency of cooperation between Tatarstan and the Czech Republic is largely accounted for their economy and industry structures's similarity, says Shaimiev.
While commenting on the results of the meeting with the President, Miroslav Kostelka told the journalists that Tatarstan was a respected partner for Czechia. He said, the purpose of his visit to Kazan was not just promotion of economic relations but of good relations in general. As for economic cooperation, a round table discussion and meetings between Tatarstan and Czech businessmen were on 20 June held at the Commerce and Industry Chamber aimed at concluding particular cooperation agreements, said the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation of Tatarstan Khafiz Salikhov.
According to Miroslav Kostelka, the Czech party proposes cooperation in the field of deeper oil conversion, housing and utilities economy, transport and pharmacy. Besides, said Khafiz Salikhov, the Czech exhibitor Brno Exhibitions and Kazan Fair are to sign an agreement. Next year, and possibly this year, Tatarstan-based producers will attend a largest international machine building show in Brno, held in September.
