Mintimer Shaimiev has met with officials of the International Ice Hockey Federation

September 8, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev has met with officials of the International Ice Hockey Federation at the Kazan Kremlin. Mr. Rene Fasel, the President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF), Mr. Jan-Ake Advinsson, the IIHF Secretary General, and Mr. Sergey Arutyunyan, the Director General of the Russian Hockey Federation, took part in the meeting.

The leadership of the International Ice Hockey Federation came to Kazan to discuss issues of organization of the World Junior hockey Championship in Kazan and to see the opportunities of the sport infrastructure of the Republic of Tatarstan for hosting the championship.


The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) was founded in 1908 and is the worldwide governing body for ice hockey and in-line hockey. It is based in Zurich, Switzerland and has 64 members. It is responsible for the management of international ice hockey tournaments, and maintains the IIHF World Ranking.

Minister of Youth Affairs, Sport and Tourism Mr. Marat Bariyev and Kazan Mayor ilsur Metshin also attended the meeting.
