First Investment Summit of the Republic of Tatarstan has started in London

October 19, London, Great Britain, the First Investment Summit “Strategic Areas of Development and Investment Opportunities in the Republic of Tatarstan” has started. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev made a speech at the opening session.

Before the opening, the head of the republic visited the exposition of the Republic of Tatarstan.

After the morning session of the economic forum, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Jean Lemier, President of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development, at the May fair Radisson Edwardian Hotel. They discussed the details of the annual meeting and business-forum of the EBRD, which is to take place in Kazan, Tatarstan, in May 2007. It is planned that about 3 thousand businessmen from various countries should attend the event. Then the head of the republic met with Fujitsu leadership to discuss prospects of opening the high tech production and possibilities of exporting output abroad.

In the afternoon the Tatarstan President met with Rt Hon Geoff Hoon, Minister of State for Europe. Yuri Fedotov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Great Britain, Marat Safiullin, State Adviser to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan on social and economic issues, Timur Akulov, State Adviser to the President of the Republic of Tatarstan on international issues – Director of the Department of Foreign Affairs, and Hafiz Salikhov, Trade and Foreign Economic Cooperation Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, also took part in the meeting.

Mintimer Shaimiev took part in a live Internet-conference, organized by BBC Russian Service.

The day of the opening of the First Investment Summit of the Republic of Tatarstan in London finished with a reception on behalf of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan.
