November 14, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev attended the district scientific-practical conference “On problems of fighting corruption”, held in Kazan and chaired by Alexander Konovalov, Plenipotentiary Representative of the RF Presdent in the Volga Federal District.

A round table in “Kazan Fair” exhibition centre brought together representatives of executive, legislative and legal power of federal and local levels.
Opening the conference, Alexander Konovalov marked that corruption today is a hampering factor for the development of Russian society. “This phenomenon becomes more and more rambling and penetrates different spheres of our life. As Russian economy is growing, people’s wellbeing and investment activity are going up, there appear new and new spheres where the corruption can penetrate.

Unfortunately, we still cannot find effective measures to resist it”. In this regard, he named a number of the most important, in his opinion, measures that are to suppress corruption at different stages.
In his speech, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev expressed an opinion that the spread of corruption is a consequence of those deep changes that took place in social, political and economic life of the country during last years.
