November 20, Chairman of the Russian Audit Chamber Sergei Stepashin, who is in Kazan for a business trip, and Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev visited the Interregional clinical and diagnostic centre.

The distinguished guests viewed premises of the so-called Bloc A, visited the operational unit, talked with patients who underwent operations on open heart a week before. Ruste Khairullin, the director general of the institution, said the team of highly-qualified surgeons can undertake more than 6 thousand heart operations a year. Patients of the centre come not only from Tatarstan but also from the Ulyanovsk region, Bashkortostan, Mari El.
Mintimer Shaimiev said that the republic claimed several times to the RF Government that they are ready “to start saving from certain death Russians from other regions too”, however there still had been no response to this proposal.
Sergei Stepashin promised Mintimer Shaimiev that as a member of the Council under the RF President for realisation of the national project “Zdorovje” (Health) he is going to assist the Interregional clinical and diagnostic centre in every possible way in achieving a federal medical centre status. “Why should we build new medical centres in other regions, in Beslan for instance, if there is an opportunity to take a finished centre with good material resources, qualified staff and to start to develop it straight away”, he marked. Sergei Stepashin assumes it allows to significantly save budget means.
