Mintimer Shaimiev congratulated Tatarstan’s Jewish community on Hanukkah

December 18, the Kazan Kremlin, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev received representatives of Tatarstan’s Jewish community and Rabbi Itskhak Gorelik.

The meeting was dated to 10th anniversary since the synagogue had been returned to the Jewish community and celebration of one of the major Jewish holidays – Hanukkah. The atmosphere of the meeting was very warm and friendly. On his own behalf, on behalf of the RT State Concil and the RT Government Mintimer Shaimiev congratulated the Jewish community on the occasion of the holiday and presented the Rabbi with a medal “In memory of 1000th anniversary of Kazan”.

The head of the republic said that tolerance and mutual respect among various cultures and traditions of people living in Tatarstan is of enormous importance.
“We have to create conditions for self-development of the nation. We have a good understanding of it here in Tatarstan, and there are no and shouldn’t be any other thoughts”, the head of the republic marked.
