The president of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev reported to Tatarstan and Russian journalists about the socio-economical development of the republic in 2006 in Kazan Kremlin.
‘The development indexes of economy turned out to be higher that it was expected. Gross regional product made up 620 billion rubles in 2006. Our growth rates are higher that on average in the country, nevertheless we don’t insist on increase of oil production. We took petrochemistry development and revival of machine building as a reference point 7 years ago and it pays and makes us doomed to success,’ head of Tatarstan expressed confidence.
As Mintimer Shaimiev indicated, Tatarstan becomes a major producer of passenger cars by 2010 – with production volume equal to 200 000 cars a year. The President mentioned 10 major industrial enterprises of the republic, including “Nizhnekamskneftekhim”, “Tatneft”, “Kazanorgsintez”, “Kamaz” incorporated, Kazan Helicopter plant and others.
‘We should support major enterprises and develop small and middle business as well. Technoparks, special economic zones are created for these purposes,’ added Mintimer Shaimiev.
