8 June 2007, Friday

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev met with Chairman of RF Constitutional Court, Valeriy Zorkin in Kazan Kremlin on June 8.

After the end of the meeting, Mintimer Shaimiev and Valeriy Zorkin answered journalists’ questions. “Authority of RF Constitutional Court is very high; it formed during difficult years, - the head of the republic expressed his opinion. – Thus we must be grateful to this organ, as the country’s Constitution remains unchanged and continues working”. Mintimer Shaimiev pointed out important role of Valeriy Zorkin in formation of the country’s constitutional system and highly evaluated his professional skills.

Valeriy Zorkin thanked Tatarstan President for the opportunity to organize RF Constitutional Court Consultative Council in Kazan. “It happened not by chance. Constitutional Court of Tatarstan is the most powerful in the Federation. It was created among the first courts – here credit must be given to the President of the Republic”, V. Zorkin indicated.

Talking about the role and work of RT Constitutional Court, Mintimer Shaimiev emphasized that the organ is absolutely independent; its authority is high both among the republican authorities and Tatarstan citizens. The increasing number of citizens’ requests proves this fact. The head of the republic presumed that work of RF Constitutional Court would be connected with delimitation of credentials between regional and federal authorities. He also paid attention to the fact that decisions of the court should be fulfilled implicitly by all levels of authorities.
