Mintimer Shaimiev, ‘Sovereign state must have worthy defenders’

RT President Mintimer Shaimiev has taken part in the solemn ceremony of honoring the Republic of Tatarstan, which took the second place in the contest among RF regions for the best quality of preparation for military service, organization of call-up in 2006. The ceremony has been held in Kazan Kremlin on June 13.

The following officials have participated in the event: the first deputy of Privolzhiye-Uralsky Military District Commander-in-Chief, colonel-general Sergey Makarov, the first deputy of RT Prime Minister, deputy Chairman of RT Call-up Commission, Ravil Muratov, and RT Military Commissionaire, major-general Sergey Pogodin. Tatarstan achieved the best results in Privolzhiye-Uralsky Military District and the second place among RF regions. The first place was given to Stavropol Territory, the third place – to Nizhegorod Province.

Mintimer Shaimiev opened the ceremony and reminded that the whole country celebrated the Day of Russia yesterday. “This holiday acquires new meaning year by year, - the head of Tatarstan emphasized. – It must become an overall holiday; it is possible only in conditions of renascence and consolidation of the Russian Federation. Sovereign state must have worthy defenders, an army, which consists of worthy citizens, patriots capable of accomplishing set tasks. Russia mustn’t languish; it is condemned to be strong”.

The first Vice-Premier of RT, Ravil Muratov informed about the work on military-patriotic bringing-up of youth that has been done in the republic. According to his words, number of patriotic clubs in RT increased by 12% last year. Funds apportioned by RT Government for realization of the program of youth’s patriotic bringing-up also rose. “Healthy, physically developed youth is a pledge of society’s stable development and well-being,” Ravil Muratov emphasized. He added that patriotic bringing-up of youth is determined as the most important priority of the state politics. The first Vice-Premier of RT expressed particular gratitude to representatives of republican organization of veterans.

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev received an honorable diploma and a money award for contribution to preparation of citizens for military service, organization of the call-up. The head of the republic announced that the money will be sent to Tetyushi District Cadets School.

The first deputy of RT Prime Minister, deputy Chairman of RT Call-up Commission, Ravil Muratov, representatives of municipalities’ heads, republican ministries, officers of republican military commissariats, workers of educational and cultural institutions, representatives of youth organizations also received honorable diplomas and money awards.

For active participation in command mobilization exercises the following officer ranks were commissioned: lieutenant – to State councilor to RT president on economic issues, Marat Safiullin; senior lieutenant – to RT Minister of Informatization and Communication, Farit Fazylzyanov; major of justice – to Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin; major – to the head of Nizhniekamsk Municipal District, Aydar Metshin. The first deputy Prime Minister of RT, Ravil Muratov, the head of Almetyevsk Municipal District, Rishat Abubakirov, Chairman of RT Committee of War and Military Service Veterans, Akhat Yulashev received memorable medals “Patriot of Russia”.
