19 June 2007, Tuesday

Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev sent his greeting to participants of the VI All-Russia Meeting of Organizations for Historical and Cultural Preservation. RT Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov has read out the greeting on June 19.

‘I send warm greetings to such a remarkable forum. Our multinational nation has huge invaluable cultural wealth, - the greeting states. - It is natural that as Russian society returns to traditional, spiritual-moral values, the level of its responsibility for cultural-historical environment grows. That’s why this noble deed finds more and more support of public and acknowledgement on state level’.

The greeting letter also points out that, as a proverb says, Tatarstan is the place “where East meets West”; many unique material and cultural monuments were created here in coexisting of Christian and Islamic civilizations.

‘Unfortunately, large part of historical-architectural monuments was lost. Considerable work on restoring historical-cultural look of many sites has been carried out in the republic in recent ten years. During the meeting you have a fascinating opportunity to get familiarized with this experience,’ the greeting states.

In opinion of RT President, it is obvious that a lot has still to be done in order to reconstruct lost monuments both in Kazan and the whole republic. ‘We are going to solve this task in close cooperation with federal and regional organizations for preservation of historical and cultural monuments,’ is emphasized in the greeting letter.

Tatarstan Prime Minister Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that 2006 was announced the Year of Literature and Art in the republic, 2007 - the Year of Charity. According to his words, attention of state and society was directed to problems of developing culture and preserving historical sights.
