Mintimer Shaimiev studied Old Tatar settlement development concept

August 29 has seen a presentation of the concept of renovation and development of the territory of the Old Tatar Settlement taking place at the Kazan City Hall. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev attended the presentation.
RT Prime-minister Rustam Minnikhanov, RT State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin, Mayor of Kazan Ilsur Metshin, heads of republican ministries and institutions also participated in the event. The concept was presented by Chief architect of Barcelona Josep Anton Acebillo.
“Our objective is to always remember that it is the historic part of the city and try to preserve its historic appearance for as long as possible”, the Spanish architect said in the beginning of the presentation. “We should also transform this territory to a modern city with all the functions a new Kazan needs”.
During the presentation Mintimer Shaimiev asked a number of questions regarding the preservation of sites of cultural heritage in the Old Tatar Settlement. Mr. Acebillo confirmed that all wishes of the republican authorities would be taken into consideration.
“The development strategy of the centre of Kazan will allow to avoid a great deal of problems in the future”, the head of the republic believes. “It especially concerns transport. An increase of the number of cars may become a catastrophe”. The RT President pointed out that details of implementation of the strategy would be worked at and asked not to be slow in introducing proposals.
Mintimer Shaimiev highly appreciated the presented concept and thanked Josep Acebillo for the work he had done. “We will move forward. The beauty also bores, it cannot be allowed. The city should always grow and prefect”, the RT President said at the end.
