The water treatment station was put into operation in Nizhnekamsk on November 20, 2007.
Chairman of the Russian Government Sergei Ivanov, Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev and Presidential Envoy in the Volga Federal District Aleksander Konovalov pressed the main buttons on the portable control panel.
The population of the city is 227 thousand people. The decision on designing and building the water treatment station in Nizhnekamsk was adopted in 1996. The station has got a state-of-the-art laboratory providing for water analysis before it is brought to people. The station is unparalleled in Russia.
In his opening speech President Shaimiev marked that the people of Nizhnekamsk have deserved the most up-to-date water treatment station in Russia: being the third city in Tatarstan in terms of population, Nizhnekamsk is the share of almost a fourth of the republican industrial output. “We needed such water long ago – and we’ve got it!” the President could not conceal his joy. “Today, the purest water is in Nizhnekamsk”.
The ceremony ended with the President’s presenting awards to a number of people of Nizhnekamsk who had taken part in the construction of the water treatment station.
