Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev called the recent political events in the country determining and answering the question of what the national leader should be like.
“The determining political processes have been taking place in the country recently and especially during last 24 hours. Their importance is related to ensuring the country’s stability and care for its future destiny”, Mintimer Shaimiev said Monday to Interfax-Volga, emphasizing that all these “have to do with the figure of the country’s current President – Vladimir Putin”.
The Tatarstan President believes that Putin’s recent steps taking place on the background of his successful, fruitful work during the last eight years reveal the notion of being a national leader.
“Putin announced that he would not stand for the third term in advance, showing by personal example that the Fundamental Law of the country is to be observed by everyone irrespective of what position they have”.
“This step is undoubtedly establishing a good tradition and is a guarantee of successful development of the country in the future. I would say that it is a lesson for all of us”, Mintimer Shaimiev underlined.
Besides, with his high rating in the society Putin headed United Russia’s federal list in December 2 elections to the RF State Duma making his contribution to the creation of a strong, real political party of the country”, the Tatarstan leader assumes.
He also believes that the address by presidential candidate Dmitri Medvedev to the current president to head the government is “very logical, considered and right”.
“I assume that Vladimir Vladimirovich will give his consent. That will be his next mission ensuring that in this case Medvedev’s candidacy will get people’s maximum support.
All these steps of the President of the Russian Federation, Mintimer Shaimiev noted, give an answer to the question of what a national leader in the current period of development of the Russian State should be like.
“I would like to underline once again that it will result in full continuity of the chosen course the country has been following in recent years”.
