Mintimer Shaimiev has delivered an Annual Address to the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan

January 31 saw the opening of the 35th session of the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan taking place in the Salikh Saidashev Grand Concert Hall. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan delivered the Annual Address to the State Council of the Republic of Tatarstan.

For two hours the President read the text of the message touching upon virtually all areas of the life in the republic. He pointed out that the republic “has to focus on three key factors of development: building a modern infrastructure, providing support to talented people and ensuring ecological and social comfort, improving moral and physical health of the citizens.”
Talking about politics, the head of the republic underlined that the preparation for the presidential elections in Tatarstan was being carried out in “calm social and political atmosphere with information openness”, and that Dmitry Medvedev’s nomination for the post of Russian President was “a logical and reasonable decision.”
The President also talked about Tatarstan’s international contacts and urged to stricter monitor economic agreements of the republic. Besides, he pointed out that “it was necessary to determine the status of the republican representatives”. “We need a more attentive approach to their status and activities. They have to be a real outpost, which presents interests of Tatarstan”, Mintimer Shaimiev said.
The head of the republic marked that the pervasive character of Mass Media in times of globalization becomes one of the major factors determining perception of social phenomena.
Mintimer Shaimiev paid great attention to the development of education. He said he was unhappy with preparation of students in some establishments of higher education in Kazan.
