Meeting of the anti-drug commission has been held in the Kazan Kremlin

The meeting of the anti-drug commission chaired by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev was held in the Kazan Kremlin on April 29.
Valery Abdullin, the deputy head of the Federal Service for control over drug circulation, reported on results of implementation of the Republican drug abuse prevention programme in 2007. He said that as of now as many as 8800 people with drug addiction are registered in the republic, 388 people died of drug poisoning last year. Growth of such cases is recorded in Bugulma, Yelabuga and Chistopol. He also said that today not many young people are involved in anti-drug activities; however, 34 percent of young people consider first drug use harmful for their health.
At the end of the meeting Mintimer Shaimiev reminded that examinations are soon to start in higher educational establishments and said that it is necessary to take this opportunity for a checkup. Then he summed up the meeting saying that the work of the anti-drug commission had been insufficient in the previous year. "It is my last warning. We must not work like that. We need rigorous solutions."
