Mintimer Shaimiev: Glory to the victorious people!

May 9 saw the grand event to mark the 63rd anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War taking place in Millennium Square. Over a thousand veterans attended the event.

President Mintimer Shaimiev addressed greetings on behalf of the Tatarstan State Council and Government and on his on behalf to the war veterans, workers of the home front and servicemen of the Kazan garrison.

“On this unforgettable spring day of 1945 our long-suffering land received a long-awaited news about the end of the great Patriotic War. The Soviet liberating soldier fulfilled his historic mission with honour – finally crushed the enemy in their own den,” the head of the republic said in his greeting.

The memory of fallen soldiers and all victims of the Great Patriotic War was honoured with a silence minute.

“Glory to the victorious people who upheld their right to life and freedom, honour and praise to our veterans, heroes of the front and home front, whose vivid example continues to inspire the younger generations to patriotic accomplishments. May the peaceful sky be always over our country and the whole world”, the President of Tatarstan wished the gathering.
