The President of Tatarstan met with representatives of the Republic of Tatarstan Writers Association

On May 22nd, President of the Republic of Tatarstan met with the representatives of the RT Writers Association.

The head of the Republic used this opportunity to talk with renowned Tatarstan literature masters and discuss issues of importance for the board and also members of the Republic’s Writers Association.

Other participants of the discussion included deputy Prime-minister of the Republic of Tatarstan – minister of culture Ms.Zilya Valeeva, head of the President’s internal policy department Mr.Aleksandr Terentyev, chairman of the board of directors of JSC "Tatmedia" Marat Muratov, chairman of the board of the RT Writers Association Mr.Ilfaq Ibragimov.

"I believe the most important is that we managed to keep the Writers Association of the Republic of Tatarstan. The times were difficult, but, despite everything, we’ve shown our decisiveness and stood strong. And now we don’t need to be concerned with the most difficult part – the creation of a working institution", - said Mintimer Shaimiev. According to him, currently the focus should be on taking activities of the Republic of Tatarstan Writers Association to new heights and strengthening the organization.

"RT Writers Association helps young writers, conducts special events dedicated to anniversaries of renowned ones. It’s important to keep good practices, but also find and introduce new ways of making treasures of culture available to the widest public", - underlined the President of the Republic, noting theatrical performances and various programs broadcast by Tatarstan Novyj Vek TV channel.

"Works of the classics of literature who worked in our Republic should be accessible to all, which is the primary reason for strong state support of book publishing in Tatarstan", - later said Ms. Valeeva during the press-conference. She mentioned that literary field of Tatarstan starts blooming with many new names.

RT minister of culture noted the importance of translating works of Tatarstan writers from Tatar into Russian, European and Turkic languages. Masterpieces should receive priority attention and be made accessible to book-lovers.

"During this meeting with the President of Tatarstan, we touched on issues to be studied during the XVI congress of the RT writers. We are going to consider issues of helping raise new generations of writers in our Republic", - stated Mr. Ibragimov. He also mentioned that writers will be discussing artistic translation from Tatar into Russian, other languages spoken in Tatarstan, as well as foreign ones.
