President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev is in Ashkhabad taking part of the two-day visit of the Russian Federation President Dmitry Medvedev to Turkmenistan. The head of our republic has taken part in the meeting of the two countries delegations at the President’s Palace.
Issues of cooperation between the two countries in fuel-energy complex, education, culture, construction, and transport were discussed at the talks.
5 documents were signed at the highest level. Dmitry Medvedev and President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguli Berdimukhamedov issued a joint statement on the development of relations between the Russian Federation and Turkmenistan. A Memorandum on cooperation between the two countries culture ministries for 2008-2010, an agreement on cooperation between education ministries, an inter-government agreement on mutual protection of secret information, and a program for cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan’s ministries of foreign affairs for 2008-2010 were signed.
Members of the Russian Federation visited the National Independence Park in Ashkhabad and laid flowers to the monument honoring of Turkmenistan independence. They also planted a tree in the Alley of Honored Guests.
The delegation from Russia visited the Museum of the First Turkmenistan President in the National Cultural Center. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and members of the delegation laid flowers in the Mausoleum, the burial site of the first President of Turkmenistan.
