August 17, Russian women tennis players won all the three singles medals in the Beijing Olympics 2008. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, sent a greeting message to Shamil Tarpishchev, the President of the Russian Tennis Federation, the captain of the Russian tennis team.
It reads: “I congratulate you and the Russian women’s team on the glorious victory in the Beijing Olympics 2008.
There’s no doubt that this day will be marked in the world sport history as a symbol of greatness of the Russian tennis school.
We are proud that a representative of the Tatar people Dinara Safina has also contributed into this unforgettable victory. She managed to keep playing and showed strong will and character on the way to victory despite having a complicated exhausting game schedule.
