August 19 saw the meeting of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Mintimer Shaimiev, and the Prime-minister of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, taking place in Moscow.
Mintimer Shaimiev reported to the Chairman of the Government on results of social and economic development in the Republic of Tatarstan over the seven months of this year. He marked that a number of indicators exceeded the expected figures; in particular, those refer to housing construction, mechanical engineering, oil refining and agriculture.
President Shaimiev also told President Putin about harvesting. "As of today, as much as 3 million tons of grain with high crop capacity was gained, and Tatarstan can again gather record harvest," he said.
During the meeting, the issues of preparation for conducting the Universiade in 2013 were in the focus. It was said that in view of importance of the event it is necessary to accelerate solving organizational tasks and launch construction of Universiade sites as soon as possible.
The interlocutors also discussed construction of a mineral fertilizers factory in Mendeleyevsk, Tatarstan, a highway between Kazan and Orenburg and a number of other issues. Russian Prime-minister Vladimir Putin instructed the relevant ministries and departments on the discussed issues.
