Day of Europe in Kazan may become a tradition

Chairman of Tatarstan State Council Farid Moukhametshin proposed holding the Day of Europe annually.

He made this proposal on March 28 meeting with the head of the European Commission Delegation to Russia Marc Franco. The meeting was held as a part of the Day of Europe in Kazan.

Farid Moukhametshin thanked the guests for the decision to organize the Europe festival in Tatarstan capital. “Events of the Day of Europe in Kazan have given impetus to economic, cultural, and sport life of the society, friendship with European countries,” Tatarstan parliament speaker is convinced.

Farid Moukhametshin stated that organization of the Day of Europe in Kazan proves presence of points of contact and prospects of further cooperation between the republic and European countries. Tatarstan State Council Chairman proposed to make the Day of Europe in Kazan a tradition.

Mr Franco said at a press conference after the meeting that the European Commission Delegation to Russia plans to organize the Day of Europe in Kazan next year. “If our partners consider it necessary and keep the current level of enthusiasm and the events of the Day of Europe in Kazan are a success, we intend to organize such days next year.”

“Taking into consideration the interest, which has been evoked by the first Day of Europe in Kazan, we will look forward to consent of the European Commission representatives. We expect this day would become a tradition in Kazan,” Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Culture Zilya Valeyeva said.

The Day of Europe is held in Kazan for the first time. Its purpose is to tell as much as possible about the contemporary European culture and life of Europeans to Tatarstan capital residents.
