Tatarstan Industry Ministry to meet with official of Embassy of Canada in Russia

The Tatarstan Industry and Trade Ministry will on Tuesday host a meeting between the ministry’s heads and the Embassy of Canada in Russia official Steven Millar, said the ministry’s press service.

Attendees at the meeting will be the deputy industry minister Linar Latypov and representatives from Tatarstan-based companies. A presentation of Tatarstan’s economic and investment potential will be made, the parties will exchange information and discuss possible cooperation.

Mr Millar’s visit to Tatarstan will continue until 22 March, its programme includes a meeting at the president of Tatarstan Department of External Affairs, a tour of the Kazan Helicopter Plant and the special economic zone Alabuga.

Based on the 2008 results, Canada ranked 23rd among Tatarstan’s trading partners. Trade between Tatarstan and Canada reached a maximum, totalling $138.8 million, a 3.9-fold increase versus 2007, of which exports were $50.8 million, a 2.6-fold increase versus 2007, while imports totalled $88 million, a 5.6-fold increase versus 2007. The shares of exports and imports in the bilateral trade were 36.6 and 63.4 percent respectively.
