Austria’s Ambassador to Russia visits Kazan State University

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to the Russian Federation, Martin Vukovich visited Kazan State University on March 16.

Rector of Kazan State University, Myakzyum Salakhov welcomed the distinguished guest at one of the oldest universities of the country. Myakzyum Salakhov said that nearly 18 thousand students are studying at 17 departments of the university at present.

According to KSU Rector’s words, the university cooperates with 60 countries of the world. The head of KSU Board for International Relations Andrei Krylov informed that Kazan University had established lose contacts with German colleges, but there were no agreements with Austrian universities. Geology students from Kazan participate in the assembly in Austria every year. Besides, scientific projects are realized jointly with Austrian scientists.

Myakzyum Salakhov also informed that the global economic crisis had not directly influenced universities – financing for scholarships and salaries is received at the proper time.

Martin Vukovich thanked for a warm welcome at “the place where Russia education and science are concentrated”. The ambassador also expressed regret that he hadn’t had a chance to talk to KSU students during the visit.

The guest received souvenirs with KSU symbols depicted on them at the end of the meeting.
