Mayor of Kazan: “Kazan population demonstrates constancy of political creed”

2 March 2009, Monday
Political creed of Kazan residents remains constant. Mayor of Kazan, Ilsur Metshin expressed such an opinion at the traditional “business Monday” meeting, where results of Tatarstan parliamentary election were summed up.

Ilsur Metshin cited data revealing the turnout of voters at Kazan polling stations – it totaled 66 per cent. According to preliminary data, 72 per cent of voters voted for the United Russia; 12.6 per cent for the Communist Party, 8.3 – for “Spravedlivaya Rossiya” (“Fair Russia”), 4.8 per cent – the Liberal-Democratic Party (LDPR).

“This statistics are similar to the previous elections to the State Duma and Kazan City Duma,” I. Metshin said. “Citizens are constant about their choice.”

“I would like to thank Kazan citizens for active participation in the election, for their citizenship. I would also like to thank all those who were involved in organization of the election process. No considerable violations were registered at polling stations, it is very important for us. I want to thank members of election commissions at polling station, heads of the district administrations, chiefs of apparatuses for professional skills and accomplished work.”
