Council under the President of the Russian Federation for development of physical culture and sport has been convened in Sochi

The meeting of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for development of physical culture and sport took place in Sochi on March 23. Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev and Prime-minister Rustam Minnikhanov attended the meeting.

The Tatarstan President told journalists after the meeting that it was of great importance that for the first time the preparation for the Sochi Olympics and the Kazan Universiade was discussed together, readiness and prospects were assessed.

The head of the republic also said that a whole complex of issues related to development of children and mass sports, creating an effective system of selection of talented young sportsmen was in focus at the meeting. The Tatarstan President went on to say that all the works on preparation for the Universiade were going on actively and expressed his confidence that the World University Summer Games would be well prepared.

Earlier, on March 20th, by the Decree of the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev in the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on the development of physical culture and sports, preparation and hosting of the 22nd Olympic Winter Games and 11th Paralympics of 2014 in Sochi.
