Mintimer Shaimiev met with writer Chingiz Aitmatov

February 21, RT President Mintimer Shaimiev met “living” classic of the Soviet literature, the Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov.


Their conversation was both in Tatar and Kyrgyz, for about an hour and they understood each other clearly. According to the writer, there was a wide range of questions touched upon during the meeting. “It was not only informational exchange but an open talk…”, noted Ch.Aitmatov.

Mintimer Shaimiev delivered the eminent writer the medal “In the memory of Kazan Millennium”. Unfortunately, he could not come to the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan himself. Ch. Aitmatov told that he experience “deeply native feelings” to Kazan.

Nowadays, Mr. Aitmatov represents the Republic of Kyrgyzstan in the Benelux Convention countries, France, the EU and NATO.
