RT President Mintimer Shaimiev had meeting with William Burns Ambassador of USA to RF

On February 7, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev had a meeting with the USA Ambassador to the RF William Burns in Kazan Kremlin.


During the meeting Mintimer Shaimiev noted that visits to Tatarstan became a positive tradition established amongst the USA ambassadors. “Probably our meetings do not occur very often but we always can achieve good relations”, - M.Shaimiev stressed. He also expressed an opinion that Tatarstan is of an interest for the USA as a national and at a time a multinational and multi-religious republic.

In his turn, Mr.Burns informed that he has been to our republic with the American delegation some years ago. “Yet at that time I realized, Russia is too big to judge of it from Moscow”, - Mr.Ambassador said. According to him, Kazan plays important role in the history of Islam and Russia. “I think all the rest of the world should follow your example of religious tolerance”, - W.Rurns considers. He thanked RT President for hospitable reception, having noted that he observes his mission of the ambassador in broadening economic contacts with Russia.
