Akhmet Mazgarov elected new President of RT Academy of Sciences

On February 3, professor Akhmet Mazgarov was elected the new President of Academy of Sciences (AS) of the Republic of Tatarstan at extraordinary general assembly of RT AS.

The academician, professor Mansur Khasanov, doctor of philology, director of the Tatar encyclopaedia institute, the first President of AS resigned his post on medical grounds. According to him, the Academy will enter history as “the offspring of the First President of Tatarstan”.

RT President Mintimer Shaimiev named professor Khasanov “a man in a thousand”. “All his life we have known him as the most active state figure, the scientist and then the President of Tatarstan Academy of Sciences”. RT President expressed to M.Khasanov gratitude for his self-sacrificing service, having noted that RT AS has became an important attribute of Tatarstan’s statehood in due time.

Professor Akhmet Mazgarov, doctor of technical sciences, deserved chemist of RT, academician of RT AS, laureate of RT State prize, academician of International academy of natural sciences of Islamic countries, laureate of the RF Government prize was unanimously elected new President of the Academy of Science of the Republic of Tatarstan.

Head of RT President’s Administration Yuri Kamaltynov, RT First Vice-Premier Ravil Muratov, RT Minister of education and science Rais Shaikhelislamov, RT Minister of ecology and natural resources Irina Larochkina, academicians and corresponding members of RT AS, representatives of state power bodies took part in the general assembly.
