Delegation of Iranian Parliament (Medzhlis) visited Tatarstan

On December 14, an official delegation of Islamic Consultative Assembly (Medzhlis) of Iran headed by its Chairman Golam Ali Haddad Adel arrived in Tatarstan. The delegation included also Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Islamic republic of Iran to Russian Federation Golam Reza Ansari and deputies of Medzhlis. RT State Council Chairman Farid Mukhametshin and other officials welcomed the guests at the International Airport “Kazan”.

Their programme of visit was very busy. Foreign guests visited Russian Islamic University where they met Chairman of RT Muslim Religious Board Mufti Gusman hazrat Iskhakov and joined the daily prayer. Then the delegation saw the Volga region Iranian cultural centre at Tatar State Humanitarian-Pedagogical University and participated at the meeting with alumni and lecturers.

They arrived at the City Hall at the afternoon, where presentation on Tatarstan’s economic potential had taken place. Then Iranian MP’s will also visit Kul Sharif Mosque and Annunciation Cathedral at Kazan Kremlin.

Meeting with Mintimer Shaimiev was held at RT President Residence.

Russia got a possibility to cooperate closer with countries of the world during the reformation period, Mintimer Shaimiev said at the opening. “In conditions of shut-in society, despite the commonness of cultures of our peoples we had not opportunity of knowing about each other”, Tatarstan President acknowledged, having added that yet far back in the past there were developed trade and culture links between Iran and our region. Goods brought from Persia were handed from generation to generation as relics and still are preserved in some families, Head of Tatarstan noted.

Chairman of Iranian Medzhlis Golam Ali Khaddad Adel noted, in his turn, that conditions for trade-economic cooperation between the two republics do exist, and there are no any obstacles for them. “In this respect, our cooperation in the field of oil production is given some special place. Naturally, we will activate our efforts in this direction,”- he said. It is worth mentioning that Iran is the second in the world by oil deposits and oil production.

“It is with great pleasure I should like to announce to the people of Tatarstan that administrative and legal questions concerning opening of Consulate General of Islamic republic of Iran in Kazan are accomplished”, Head of Iranian parliament stated, having added that the agreement between the two republics has already been achieved.
