Mintimer Shaimiev: year 2006 should become year of Tukai

Today President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev has accepted board chairman of the RT Union of writers Ilfak Ibragimov. in the Kazan Kremlin. During a meeting the issues of holding next year the actions devoted to 100-anniversary of Musa Dzhalil’s birthday and 120-anniversary of Gabdulla Tukai’s birthday have been discussed.

The First republican congress of the Soviet writers where Kavi Ndzhmi was elected as a board chairman of literary organization took place in Kazan in July, 1934. All in all 15 congresses of writers of republic from now on were held, about 700 writers became members of the organization. Today n the RT Union of writers numbers 306 writers and poets. For more than seventy years of activity the creative Union had been headed by Kavi Nadzhmi , Garif Gubai , Gumer Bashirov, Mirsai Amir, Garif Akhunov, Tufan Minullin, Foat Galimullin and other celebrated personalities.

Ilfak Ibragimov has been elected on a post of board chairman of the Union of writers of Tatarstan at XV congress of organization in May of this year. He has been standing in the Union of writers since 1995.

After end of a meeting with the head of republic Ilfak Ibragimov answered questions of journalists. As he said, President first of all got interested in issues on holding the next year the festive actions devoted to 100-anniversary of Nusa Dzhalil’s birthday and 120-anniversary of Gabdulla’s Tukai birthday. The head of the creative union reminded of Mintimer Shaimiev's recent meeting with academician Kamil Valiev, when one of key subjects had been discussion of forthcoming celebrating of 120-anniversary of Tatar classic of poetry At a meeting with academician Valiev the President said that 2006 should become year of Tukai. He added, that the RT Union of writers has worked out extensive plan of measures, devoted to significant anniversary which to be marked not only in Kazan and regions of the republic, but also outside Tatarstan.
