Meeting between President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev with chief of Volga customs management Leonid Shornikov in Kazan

President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev held meeting in the Kazan Kremlin with chief Volga customs management Leonid Shornikov and chief Tatarstan customs house Nikolay Kotsubenko. During a meeting the issues of functional and structural changes of the Volga customs services of the federal district promoting developing economy of regions being members of it and introducing modern technologies at check points were discussed.
Region of the Volga activity of customs management includes 15 subjects of the Volga federal district occupying territory over one million square kilometers and the population almost of 32 million people (about 22 percent of total number of the population of the Russian Federation), with external border - Republic of Kazakhstan extending 2392 kilometers. 69 customs posts come under command of customs management and customs houses of the region. Besides 12 air check points at the airports are operating, two of which are stationed in Kazan. In 2004 the volume of the goods processed by customs houses of the region, exceeded 23 billion dollars. The sum of 80 billion 326 million rubles have been channeled to the federal budget by VFD customs houses. Three quarters of transfers have been provided by Tatarstan , Samara, Tolyatti, Bashkortostan, Nizhniy Novgorod and Saratov customs houses.
On 17 March, speaking at a meeting of the State Council of the republic, where its Chairman Farid Mukhametshin declared his early termination of powers, Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaymiev said: “Mutual respect and deep understanding help to preserve high trust of our people.”
On 13 March the Rais (Head) of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov and the State Counselor of the republic Mintimer Shaimiev accompanied by the regional Mufti Kamil Samigullin took part in the XIV Iftar of the republic organized by the Spiritual Board of Muslims of Tatarstan, the administration of the Ak Bars Arena stadium and the national tourist complex Tugan Avylym (My Native Village) at the Kazan Expo Exhibition Center.
On 20 January in the evening Russian President Vladimir Putin called Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev and congratulated him with his birthday. During the conversation Vladimir Putin stated that he is happy to hear bright voice of Mintimer (Sharipovich) and wished him good health and all the best.
On 20 January, congratulating Tatarstan State Counselor Mintimer Shaimiev with his birthday, the Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin wrote in his telegramme: “Being a famous and political leader, you have made a substantial contribution into modern development of Tatarstan and have earned the deep respect and gratitude of residents of the republic.
