Mintimer Shaimiev: “Educational System Should be Economically Oriented”

On August 4, Conference “Education in new Millennium”, were RT President Mintimer Shaimiev took part, was held in Kazan.

A traditional meeting of Tatarstan teachers in the year of Kazan 1000-anniversary obtained an international status. Representatives from Germany, Turkey, Kazakhstan, education executives from Bashkortostan, Karelia, Udmurtia, Republic Saha (Yakutia), Kaluga, Moscow, Kirov and many other oblasts of Russia gathered at the meeting. Deputy Chairman of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the European Council Gunther Krug (Germany) was an honorary guest of the conference.

Speaking about the priority targets of Tatarstan economic development – mechanical engineering, petrochemistry and agriculture – the President underlined that these sectors require professional staff to be prepared, possessing “solid fundamental knowledge”. M. Shaimiev stressed that the educational system should be oriented on them, first of all.

He empathised that it is important to support only the professions that would provide real socio-economic development of Tatarstan.

In the area of agricultural education RT President called upon to think over a flexible study schedule for young farmers. For instance, at winter time when they have less work to do, it is necessary to load them with lessons intensively, otherwise, creating appropriate conditions for this category, noted President.
