Alexi II: “Icon of Kazan Mother-of-God should stay in Kazan Mother-of-God Monastery”

On July 20, a meeting of RT President Mintimer Shaimiev and Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexi II was held in Kazan. The Patriarch took around the Annunciation Cathedral and Kul-Sharif Mosque during his visit to Kazan Kremlin.

An hour and a half meeting of Mintimer Shaimiev and Alexi II took place at RT President Residence. “Kazan Mother-of-God Icon copy has travelled a very long way” Patriarch said, in particular, to the journalists. “It had been in the USA, Portugal, Italy then it has been handed over to us in Moscow. On July 21, we are going to give it to the reconstructed Mother-of-God Monastery. First, it will participate in the sacred procession, and before that a prayer would be performed in the Exaltation of the Cross Church. I believe that the Icon should stay in Mother-of-God Monastery, and Mr. President agreed with me”, - Alexi II said.
