Tatarstan President met with Valentina Matvienko

On May 27, an official meeting of President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, while being in St. Petersburg for celebration of the day of the city, and Governor of St. Petersburg Valentina Matvienko took place in the Smolny Palace.

V. Matvienko and M. Shaimiev discussed issues of bilateral relations and the course of preparation for the celebration of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan. St. Petersburg plays an active part in Kazan’s preparation for its millennium.

V. Matvienko marked that Tatarstan accumulated a good deal of experience in city management and it will of use for St. Petersburg. She has also said that resident of St. Petersburg are grateful to Tatarstan for the gifts for the 300th anniversary of the city. St. Petersburg prepares gifts in return for the 1000th anniversary of Kazan. “There will be St. Petersburg Street in Kazan that will have the style and the spirit of St. Petersburg”, the Governor said. There will also be the Days of Culture of St. Petersburg and the branch of the Hermitage museum is to open.
