13th Karavon brought together admirers of Russian folklore in Russkoe Nokolskoe, Tatarstan

Traditional bell ringing opened the 13th interregional festival of Russian folklore “Karavon” in the village of Russkoe Nikolskoe, Laishevsky district, Tatarstan on May 21.
Many guests gathered together long before the official opening of the festival and curiously watched arts and crafts items. Chief of Staff of the RT President Yuri Kamaltynov, RT Deputy Prime-minister – Minister of Culture Zilya Valeyeva, Deputy Chiarman of the Rt State Council Alexander Gusev, State Council Secretary Valentina Lipuzhina also attended the festival.

Yuri Kamaltynov read the welcoming address of President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev. “During short time, karavons from having been traditional countryside gatherings have become a prestigious festival of Russian folklore, known far beyond our republic… The symbol of the holiday is a round dance, the uniting origin of which is felt by each participant irrespective of social state, age, nationality, and faith. Original folk roots and openness of “Karavon” make it sound specially and are perceived as an essential part of our common spiritual culture”, reads the greeting.
