Mintimer Shaimiev: “Contacts with UNESCO improve us far and wide”

It was Tatarstan that showed the algorithm of how to prepare sites for inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage list – one should work seriously and hard. Chairman of the Russian Committee for the World Heritage Igor Makovetsky gave such a reference to the cooperation between our republic and that international organisation, during the session of the RF Commission for UNESCO. RT President Mintimer Shaimiev and RF Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Lavrov, the head of the Commission, were present in the session.

The Kazan Kremlin is one of the 11 Russian objects in the World Heritage list beginning from 1996. At the end of the session, the RT President was awarded a commemorative medal “Russia-UNESCO” for his personal contribution to the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the UNESCO. The head of the republic noted that many-sided work, close contacts with such organisation as UNESCO makes us better far and wide from all points of view.

“We do this not to distinguish ourselves, but to join the world civilisation” he underlined.
