Meeting devoted to the 60th Anniversary of death of the great Tatar poet Musa Jalil and his brother-in-arms

August 25 saw a traditional meeting commemorating the 60th Anniversary of death of the great Tatar poet Musa Jalil and his brother-in-arms executed in 1944 by fascists. he meeting was held in First of May Square.

The event was attended by Tatarstan President Mintimer Shaimiev, Deputy Chairman of the RT State Council Rimma Ratnikova, RT Minister of Culture Ildus Tarkhanov, RT Military Comissar Rim Mustaev, the poet’s daughter Chulpan Jalilova, officials of the President’s Administration, ministries, intelligentsia.

After the ceremony of wreathlaying, Mintimer Shaimiev talked about the significance of the monument to Musa Jalil. “All peoples have their symbols showing their spiritual strength and unite ideas and hopes of the nation. For Tatarstan, the monument to Musa Jalil and his brothers-in-arms is one of such symbols, it adds a vivid page to our history at he price of their lives.”

“Sixty years ago, this man and his brothers-in-law showed the world what the Tatars are like, Mintimer Shaimiev went on to say. And let them be remembered forever.”
