Kazan-capital of Russian chess

RT President Mintimer Shaimiev, Vice-Prime Minister of Russia and President of Russian Federation of Chess Alexander Zhukov took part in the closing ceremony of the 54th Russian Women’s Chess Championship that took place on July 10. Tatar Grand Master Alisa Galyamova and President of the Chess Federation were acknowledged by memorable medals “State Sport Committee of Russia 80 years”.

Chess Federation could not find better place than Kazan for the Championship, Alexander Zhukov said. This competition gains its value because four of the best chess players will represent Russia at the Chess Olympiad in Spain, autumn this year. Russian Vice-Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to RT President for the support of the Chess Championship, noted that on the occasion of Kazan’s 1000th anniversary Chess Federation certainly can organize Chess tournaments of European and International level in Kazan. Mintimer Shaimiev, said that Tatarstanians are very much glad that such a high level chess came to Tatarstan, giving the ceremonial prize to the winner Tatyana Kosintseva. We will be having chess tournaments of different level in future, improving Tatarstan’s sport positions. At the time when a society stabilizes, intellectual games get their priority. Applying to the participants Mintimer Shaimiev said: “You possess a wonderful combination of beauty and wisdom, nation’s future welfare is in it. I would like to wish you victorious performances at prestigious Chess Olympiad.”
