Mintimer Shaimiev takes part in the opening of the East wing of the main building of Kazan State University

Today saw a grand opening of the East wing of the main building of Kazan State University. President of the Republic of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev attended the opening. Constructions works started in November 2002 and have just come to an end.

The wing will host the faculty of biology and soil. There are 38 laboratories, 8 lecture-rooms, 18 offices and the conference-hall.

The construction was financed by the budget of Russia.

Tatarstan President said: “With the East wing completed, Kazan State University obtained more space for studies, and also it has got its architectural look completed, it has become full-fledged”.

Mintimer Shaimiev marked that the East wing was built a hundred years ago in 1904, so that in a hundred years after the university had been founded, and a hundred years before the today’s event. “By the bicentenary of Kazan State University there are a lot of problems to be settled in the nearest time”.
